Joans The Grocer @ Hyde Park

We had intended to actually go to By Blackbird but it appeared it was closed for painting or redecorating. The French cafe across the road was our next choice but that was closed too. Note to self, don't go food hunting on Mondays. Eventually walking up the King William Road we came to Joans the Grocer. It's a very interesting concept of a store and cafe whereby the focus is on seasonal gourmet food so their menu changes from time to time and the gourmet food products can be purchased in store for everyone to recreate restaurant quality meals.

Since we both hadn't actually eaten anything yet we decided to do breakfast. I had the big breakfast with balsamic sauteed mushrooms, sourdough bread, bacon, tomato, poached eggs and chipolatas. The chipolatas sold it for me. The bacon was nice and crispy and the mushrooms were beautiful. The poached egg wasn't as runny as I'd like it to be but overall a good breakfast.

We sat outside and the sun was incredibly strong hence the brightness! My friend had a smaller breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, mushroom and toast. The scrambled eggs looked nice and creamy.

To be honest the meal was nice but overpriced for what you got. It's good but not worth raving on about. I've also heard they can be inconsistent as my friend returned not long after but her meal wasn't as nice.
